The Altai landscape choice
Northern Xinjiang is for travelers prioritizing Kanas, Hemu, forest, rivers and the Altai autumn. It does not combine efficiently with every other Xinjiang icon: the distance from Urumqi makes the route a major trip component in its own right.
The famous scenery comes with local shuttle systems, walking and nights in remote areas. Comfort expectations should be matched to the actual overnight location rather than a generic star rating.
Gateway and season decisions
Altay flights can reduce highway time when schedules fit; an Urumqi loop is easier to source but includes long overland sectors. Ten days is a realistic shared-route frame when Kanas and Hemu are combined with the return corridor.
Autumn demand and early cold weather can affect rooms, transport and the daily order. Confirm foreign-guest hotel acceptance and departure status before buying tight connecting flights.
